THE Upper Hunter town of Aberdeen was probably eligible for a federal grant to set up a medical centre, member for Gwydir John Anderson said yesterday.

In Aberdeen to talk to community representatives, Mr Anderson said the town was a good example of how federal grant money could be used.

Aberdeen is without a doctor after Scone GPs had to pull out because of a doctor shortage in that town.

Mr Anderson said the grant money was specifically designed to construct medical centres in small towns.

The community would be asked to contribute.

Aberdeen is confident it has attracted a new doctor, who expects to move from Condoblin early next year.
