AN awesome second-half comeback was not enough for San Clemente's under-14 rugby league team during its Knights Knockout grand final appearance against St Joseph's, Aberdeen.

Students from San Clemente HS travelled en masse to EnergyAustralia Stadium on June 27 to watch the teams play.

The boys were nervous and didn't start well, conceding three tries in the first half.

In the early stages of the second half, the boys had two more tries scored against them, taking the tally to 24-0.

Then, within the space of five minutes, San Clemente scored two tries back-to-back. It was game on.

Halfback Ned Nissen then scored his second try of the day, taking the score to 24-18 with just 10 minutes left in the game.

With two minutes to go, the score was 28-22 to Aberdeen. The crowd was excited and wildly vocal, but sadly that wasn't enough to push San Clemente over the line.
