POLICE have formed Strike Force Durbin to investigate the mysterious death of a 55-year-old man who was found unconscious in an Aberdeen street.

Hunter Valley police could neither confirm nor deny yesterday whether the man had been bashed.

His death in hospital marked the beginning of a violent Australia Day long weekend in the Hunter.

Two men have been refused bail and ordered to face court over incidents in Port Stephens and Lake Macquarie.
